He DID it!
He DID it! At age 60 and 22 years since his last marathon, Pat Moriarty completed the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 11, 2009. This was his 12th marathon, with past conquests which include New York, Washington D.C., Boston, Honolulu, and Chicago. In fact, his first marathon was in Chicago in 1977.
While Pat is a Seattle native, he has called Chicago home for 25 years. He is President of Collegiate Services, but explained that his heart is in the work of his wife Marsha Hahn, Turning Point therapist. Upon hearing about the state budget cuts that will affect many social programs, he was intent on doing what he could to protect these vital services.
Pat explained that Turning Point provides support to those that need it most: "We’re talking about the most forgotten people, the people that can slip through the cracks, the most vulnerable people." He stressed that "every dollar lost creates suffering."
After the tremendous response from donors that resulted in over $3,000, Pat expressed profound gratitude for all those who joined the Turning Point team. Most of all, he commended the courage of the clients of Turning Point, "for whom every day is a marathon."
This year, Pat had another very special and personal reason for running. He was running in memory of his brother, Steve, who died recently of pancreatic cancer. Pat and Steve have had a long and wonderful history of running together. Turning Point is privileged to join with Pat in support and celebration of Steve's life.
