Turning Point Behavioral Health Care Center is pleased to announce that beginning on January 11, 2021, its celebrated crisis program for adults, The Living Room & Resource Center, will be expanding its hours of operation. Previously open five days a week, The Living Room & Resource Center will now operate seven days a week, noon to 8:00 p.m.
“The Living Room program has proven itself to be an invaluable resource to our community,” said Turning Point CEO Ann Fisher Raney, “and we are grateful to our funders for making this expansion possible, allowing us to provide even greater access to care and immediate support for adults in crisis.”
The Living Room & Resource Center at Turning Point is Turning Point’s award-winning walk-in program for adults in psychiatric crisis. At no out-of-pocket cost to guests, this program provides a safe, trauma-informed, expertly staffed alternative to hospital emergency rooms. The Living Room provides a calm and comfortable environment in which guests can resolve crises with an experienced and compassionate team of therapists and Recovery Support Specialists. Turning Point’s talented Recovery Support Specialists bring to their work personal lived experience with mental illness and provide uniquely skilled support for guests in crisis. Expanded to include a Resource Center, The Living Room & Resource Center now assists guests with a wide range of needs.
Now entering its 10th year of operation, The Living Room has maintained an excellent track record of deflecting guests away from emergency room visits. Since opening, The Living Room has welcomed over 2,200 visits and in the past five years has maintained at least a 98% success rate in deflecting guests away from visits to emergency rooms.
The Living Room expansion is made possible with support from the Illinois Department of Human Services. The program has also been supported by the Cook County CDBG Program, NorthShore University HealthSystem, the Rotary Club of Skokie Valley, and other generous donors.
