In response to the COVID-19 pandemic,Turning Point Behavioral Health Care Center has transitioned many of its therapeutic groups to a virtual telehealth format to continue serving its vulnerable community of clients.
Turning Point is well known for its unusually expansive groups program which ordinarily includes 50 different therapeutic groups meeting weekly for adults with severe and/or chronic symptoms of mental illness. The program offers invaluable support to adults in urgent need of mental health care, providing a wide range of therapeutic groups that focus on emotional support, skill building, and symptom management.
Regarding Turning Point's swift shift to virtual groups, Julianne Rooney, MS, LCPC, Groups Program Coordinator, said, "Transitioning a variety of diverse groups to a virtual format was challenging to say the least, but many of our groups are now being held virtually and clients are engaged and responding very positively. We are so pleased to be able to keep offering this level of support and social connection, and we are all learning a great deal in the process."
To provide additional support during the COVID-19 crisis, Turning Point has also added to the groups roster a number of additional drop-in groups for clients, so as to provide more opportunity for clients to connect to each other and to Turning Point therapists in a less structured virtual setting.
